because the pleasure outweighs the pain. when there is enough pain a person will change. example: my aunt was diagnosed with lung cancer at age 60. The day she was diagnosed her 55 year old sister who had smoked for 40 years, never touched a cigarette again. Why? for her the pain of knowing she'd lose her sister as well as not wanting to suffer from cancer.

Because we want what we want and we want it now. When we are young, we feel invincible. The steady destruction of these unhealthy practices are not immediately evident and take time, so much time, that, when we are young, we think we can outrun it. But, like the tortoise, it eventually catches up.

We eat junk food because it tastes good.

Drink alcohol because it'd addicting.

Not work out because we're lazy.

It seems that everything good in life has a downfall, huh.

Because we are addicts & addicts are not concerned with health, only with what feels good & feeds the addiction.
