My husband has MS too. We have tried no end of pills and potions and nothing seems to stop those dreaded muscle spasms. Go to the gp and its oh try this pill or try that pill.. He did try Nabilone which is a cannaboid and usually used as an anti emetic but it did work ok. Now he self prescribes his own home grown cannabis which totally relaxes him and cuts down the use of all the chemicals he was having to use. He has also had reflexology in the past but now he is in a constant state of MS its inpractical. I use peppermint oil and lavender oil in an oil burner at night and he finds a bath helps soothe him too, we use lavendar oil in the bath, though he does complain that he smells like someone from the purple rinse brigade. Try meditation and relaxations techniques, there are some fantastic cds on the market nowadays. There are so many thoughts of treatments out there, one group suggested he drink his own urine and all sorts of mad diets. He was also advised to avoid dairy products too. I think MS is so personal to each sufferer that its trial and error, we are 15 years down the line now and still trying out new things. All the best.

My wife's eldest daughter runs a support group for people with Fibromyalgia. I know it is not the same as MS, but many MS sufferers have joined, as also have some with CFS.
Many of her members find that taking cold-pressed linseed oil capsules gives them some help.
Linseed oil and Flax oil are the same thing but not all of it in the shops is cold-pressed. Much of the oil from large producers is chemically extracted.
Luckily, I have a friend who grows the flax and presses the oil on his farm, so I have a convenient supplier.
I would say that anything is worth a try so if you want some, look up highbarnoils on the net.
Please do not think I am advertising. I take it regularly and I think it has done me a power of good. It is all to do with the oil having the correct balance of Omega3 and Omega6.
I hope it works for your wife.

It all depends on your wife's symptoms. Smoking marijuana can indeed help, but assuming you are living in a country where marijuana is considered an illegal substance, you will have the whole issue of getting hold of it, breaking the law, possible addiction etc. Also, I wouldn't recommend anyone to take drugs and get high every night to relax.

Have you tried talking to your wife's doctor? If you live in a country where Marinol has been approved for treament (a marijuana based product, but without the unwanted side-effects of the drug), this could be an option for her. Also, some people have been helped by physiotheraphy and special exercises.

I would try a soothing massage. A good aromatherapist would be happy to show you how to provide a therapeutic massage with appropriate oils.

Sadly, MS is probably not treatable by alternative therapies but the symptoms can be calmed.

MS is a desperate illness,so those with it should be prepared to look for various causes,or cause, of their individual case.
MS can be rooted in infection & other rare states. The private hospital given below investigates the various causes of ms.
Treating the cause rather than just symptoms should be the aim of the sufferer.Non medical cannabis is a non starter.

I know someone who has MS as well. Below are some things that may help.

Diet:

Recommended foods:
foods made from whole, unprocessed foods
organic products
deeply colored fresh fruits and vegetables
fish from a clean water source 3 or more times a week
1 tbs of flaxseeds or flaxseed oil every other day
Tofu, bean sprouts, and cabbage
whole grains, wheat germ, brewer's yeast
vegetable juices

Foods to Avoid:
chemicals/pesticides
junk food
packaged food
artificial flavoring/colorings/preservatives
any food she's allergic to
red meat
dairy
lots of sugar
colas, sweet baked goods, candies
Caffeine

Detoxification:
Frequent short-term fasts will help cleanse her body from toxins and give her a lighter, more energetic feeling. During periods of remission, try a juice fast once a month with lots of variety of fruit and vegetable juices and broths.
Do not fast during exacerbations.

Homeopathy:
Choose one. consultation with a homeopathic practitioner is advised. Take a 6x,12x, 6C, 12C, or 30C potency twice daily for positive results. after improvement, stop unless symptoms return.

Agaricus is helpful when there are symptoms of twitching, muscle spasms, poor coordination, and uncontrolled eye movement.

Arsenicum Album is for progressive paralysis and burning sensations. person tends to be anxious and restless.

There are more too...

You could look into acupressure.
Massage is highly recommending for those with MS.
avoid saunas and hot baths-they aggravate symptoms of MS.
Cool/cold baths and showers are good.

Aromatherapy:
try relaxing oils such as lavender, jasmine, geranium, ylang ylang, and rose

Biofeedback, deep breathing, prayer, meditation, and yoga are a great way to reduce stress.

Look into Bach Flower Remedies.
Get 15 minutes of sunlight daily.
Rest whenever you feel you need it
gentle exercises
avoid tobacco smoke

I hope this helps!

Just in general, try taking fish oil every day, up to 10 grams a day, if it is tolerated after starting with a gram a day. It prevents inflammation and destruction of the myelin sheaths of nerves. Tumeric also has a mulititude of benefits without many side effects. For night time, try melatonin. Start with 1 mg one hour before bed. You can go up to 3 mgs per day. Many people say that marijuana helps. My husband's cousin had MS and she liked marijuana. Montel Williams also uses it for his MS. I hate to mention something that is illegal, but it may help and most people agree it should be available, but those laws haven't changed.

John, think you should specify how that ms appears to her and depending on several factors it may not be the same to her as it would be to someone else with major/minor health issues... So far I would recommend naturally the Goji Juice which is a natural blend of the Himalayan brand... for more info about it I'd recommend you to go to www.suzanneseck.freelife.com
