Most religions say that animals were created as full adults. So the answer would be Chicken.
Evolution says that an animal is a slight variation or mutation of a previous animal. In that case the answer would be egg (the first chicken is slight mutation during birth from some other previous creature)
So the question is answered. Twice. Now you just have to choose between religion or evolution to pick one.

The reasoning is as follows:
The egg is a potential Chicken. In actallity the egg is able to be any animal which hatches from an egg. The development of the animal inside the egg has to go through genetic changes.
The question should be, What came before the Chicken?

The egg, becuase eggs were around long before chickens were, chickens later evolved from dinosaurs.

If you believe in christianity, the chicken came first. The bible sates that god created beast of all kinds.
This is one of those questions that contradict the theory of evolution. If we started off as ooze, then how the hell did we develop two different complex reproductive organs? How did chickens start laying eggs?

beachbum is right but you have to keep in mind that the line between a non-chicken and a chicken back then when it was evolving was fundamentally non-existent.

being purely academic .. the egg was originally (as we know it) laid by dinosaurs .. chickens (birds) are now considerd to have evolved from dinosaurs .. ergo: egg before chicken .. of course if you're religious then read the first book of the Bible (Genesis)
