I learned CPR in college and have had refresher courses a few times through the years. I definitely think it is a good idea because they teach the Heimleich Maneuver also which I have had to use with 2 of my own children and twice with strangers.
If you call your local fire department they usually have classes that are either free or a minimal charge.
Many parents have not taken CPR so no, I don't think you are irresponsible! But if you get the chance to take it you should. It just adds confidence to your ability to handle what may come up as a parent.

CPR is not hard to learn. It is not the theory of relativity, a moon launch and a perpetual motion machine rolled into one. I taught CPR for years. I believe my youngest student was 12 and I taught a lady who was at least 80, gentlemen don't ask.

The simple answer to your question is EVERY adult, parent or no and all kids over 13 should know CPR. It is a life prolonging skill and frankly I think parents of young children who haven't sought out a class and become certified are more than irresponsible. Their inaction borders on negligence and child endangerment in my opinion.

You asked for honesty, I hope you can handle it and PLEASE get the training. It really is easy and while some jobs require a current certification the same is not true of the general public. Refreshers are always a good idea but the concept, when understood, is something you will have for a lifetime.

it's a good idea to know CPR especially if you have children!

Yes...anyone can call 911..but, often CPR is needed while the ambulance is on the way. Knowing CPR has saved many lives while waiting for an ambulance.

I would say def go for it.It is never a waste of money when it comes to your children's health.

Yes..I have it

Irresponsible, no. However you need to learn. The Y has CPR classes. Also check with your local Boy Scouts.

I know CPR, and knew it before my son was born. I wouldn't say it's irresponsible to not know it, but it's definitely good to know something about saving the lives of your children, God forbid the need should arise.

Of course you're not irresponisble! It's not essential to know CPR. In fact, most people that have it performed on them don't survive. Don't let people tell you your'e irresponsible.

I don't know CPR, but I know how to dial 911... I'm certainly not irresponsible by any stretch of the imagination.
