Depends on the popularity of the game. Sometimes it drops fast, but others, it takes time.
Go to gamestop's website to check the price of the game you want. They also offer used games which work well!

It depends on the demand and how popular it is. If the game is popular and high on demand, it will drop in price every once a year. Check Smash bros melee price when it came out and the price it is now.
Other games drop prizes like crazy just to make them more popular. Like red steel.
To answer your question, give it at least 6 months for the price to drop.
