Many people believe that the government is taking care of it, so they don't have to. Even things like making city benches with the arm rest in the middle is a way of denying to ourselves that we have a homeless problem. I truly believe that more churches need to help with this problem more often than just the holidays, I know that some people choose to be homeless, but where I live there are many people on the street who need serious mental help.

You know what should be done?
More jobs should be created cause the main issue with poverty is people are living off the government (and aren't given enough) because they don't have jobs because there aren't jobs available.
What is being done right now is giveing government subsidized housing and food stamps, but that doesn't pull a person out of poverty, a job would nad many people on social welfare would love a job....

Actually, nothing. President Johnson's programs, including "Head Start" and food stamps were supposed to put an end to poverty, but in reality poverty is more widespread. Back then the average boss got 50 times as much as a working person; now it is several hundrem times as much! No one is worth millions, yet even the head honcho of the American Red Cross gets millions to sit on their duffs.
The poor pay the highest rates in taxes; they contribute the highest rates to charity! Until the wealthy (upper classes) and rich (middle classes) are willing to pay working people what their work is worth, there will always be poverty.
Of course, poverty is also caused by people who are unwilling to work or because of illness or injury cannot work, but most of it is due to inequities in the economic system.

Nothing is being done by government or business/industry.

Keeping people in poverty (influencing pop culture and human manipulation of property prices, housing, international trade, banking and tax policies) is a great check on inflation, on keeping property values high for wealthy people's investments (their properties) and for ensuring there is a large enough pool of cheap labour for purposes of warfare and doing the dirty work nobody else wants to do.

i think that giving people food and money like some charities and 'humanitarians' do is making people more helpless. making people beggars that wait for more help. why not create self sustaining comunities? build instead of dropping of medicaments from planes? because those who tender for those get paid a lot supplying food, clothing ext and it is easier to get rich. walking in circles therefore.
