How does one know if a rasbora is preggers? One of mine has suddenly gotten fat after I have seen it swimming around rather oddly with another one. I am curious to know if its going to have babies.

Rasboras are not livebearers, so it is definitely not pregnant. However, it could be filling with eggs, preparing to spawn. If this is the case, the stomach will begin to bulge outwards. If they spawn in your main tank, the eggs and fry will certainly be eaten. Move them to a 5 gallon tank where the female can lay her eggs and the male can fertilize them. After this happens, remove both parents and wait for the eggs to hatch. Good luck!

rasboras can be fat little guys.

do you know how to tell the difference in gender? males usually have more squared corners on the front of the triangles on the sides. it is more apparent if you are looking at a tank of them. a male is more like a triangle and a female is a little rounded off -- kind of like a fat triangle.

they seldom lay eggs in a home tank. they like perfect water conditions (ph and stuff) and if they do lay eggs they usually eat them. bad parents!

here is some information on breeding them --

The female has come into "roe" she is not pregnate and unless you put the fish in the right conditions by itself there will be no babies .
