There's a series of books about fairies called "Rainbow Magic" by Daisy Meadows published by Scholastic. Also, there's a small series about a girl named Emma by Sally Warner that have only been out a year or two...you might want to check into them if you're not familiar with them.

when i was 8 i loved this fantasy series called "the secrets of droon" by tony abbott and i also liked "the magic treehouse" series by mary pope osborne

Mine likes the Secret Unicorn series, not too too new though.
