Keep them in your house. They kill flies.

I had the same problem. Clue word HAD!!!! Go to the store and get some BUG STOP in a big container. Not the one in the spray can the one with the hose on it for outdoor use. Spiders are getting in the house from the outside so you want to use the bug stop and spray around the whole outside of your house corners and all. You do this at least once a month. Then buy you some PIC BORIC ACID ROACH KILLER III. The stuff kills spiders, silverfish, ants, fleas, ticks, cockroaches , EVERYTHING!!!!! You put that in the corners and around the edge of the house, in the corners of cabinets, around the edge of vents, and last but not least THE CRACKS UNDERNEATH YOUR FRONT AND BACK DOORS. People keep saying you cant get rid of them thats a LIE because i know. People say keep them there good to have they kill flies. A spider can also kill you so why not use something that kills spiders and flies. Whats the point in having a bunch of pissy cats around the house when cleaning up after them is harder then buying a product from the store. I wouldnt tell you wrong. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Andrew,
you are asking about keeping spiders out and most of the answers I scanned are telling you everything except how to keep the spiders out.

Here is the bottom line up front. All arthropods are going to try to get into your house. They expand thier area constantly. It is estimated by biologist that there are about 8 billion spiders per acre over the surface of the earth.

You can not keep all of them out, but you can cut down on them drastically. First keep the house very clean. A lot of what is called spider webs is dust that has created a chain that looks like spider webs (sounds fake but is not).

Second, keep control of pests outside the house for as much distance around the house as is economically feasible for you.

That will drastically cut down the spiders.

Use of pesticide in the house each day will start to have a negative affect on you, your family and pets.

You need to look at what is called integrated pest management as a resource for dealing with pest insects both in home/office and outside.

random use of pesticides will not take care of the problem. Case in point. I use a fogger to kill mosquitos in my yard when having a gathering. The mosquitos fall when hit with the fog, other insects that are not pests keep flying.

Not everything is harmful and if you eliminate the good bugs like lady beetles for example, praying mantis and others, you will start having lots of other problems.

I do IPM for the military and I use it at home. no bug problems. I don't try to kill spiders unless they are widows, hobo or something really bad, like recluse

Senior citizen live in a mobil home so I am not on the ground level in the woods. We get spiders and I carefully remove them with paper so the house will not be full of spider webs.
The other day their was this huge spider. I mean the giant of all spiders in my bathroom looking at me like what are you doing in here. I started screaming, and my husband came to rescue me. He was so suprised, he wondered why would I scream at a spider. Coaxing him in the trash can, he was removed. But now I am scared all the time one will come back. We think we have plugged up all the holes.
Will they hurt are cat?

Oh god why is it i always find a spider question just as I am going to bed? Im terrified of them. So I wish I knew the answer to this one so I could help. I do find though that if the house is too warm they come in but that means I sit frozen lol.

I hate spiders too, I use bug spray outside my windows around the edges and outside of my front door. I'm still getting them, just not as many...apparently it's time to spray again.

I would like to ask what a "conker" is so that I can put some in the corners?

I have a resident spider on my landing ceiling, I am quite worried as it hasn't eaten for weeks. I also had another one that lived under a bookcase and it would come out at the same time every night, it had lost a leg so only had seven legs. I put it out down the far end of my garden, the next night it came out from under the bookcase to go walkabout, because of the seven legs I knew it was the same one, how I wonder did it find it's way back from so far away.Anyway just remember they are a beautiful young lady in disguise.

There were two references to conkers. If this is a hedge tree apple or hedge ball, they do work surprising well and stay around a long time. The milky substance in the hedge ball is what keeps spiders away.

i used to use them in my basement before we moved and it would work for weeks at a time.

That is hard, but you have to start spraying for spiders and any other insect duirng spring then in the begining of summer. I have spider problems but befor their eggs hatch I had to spray my home., my grass garage any place that can possibly have any spider eggs. It has work this year it is important that you spray three times a year, If you have them its hard to kill them because they have hatched and moved around your home. But for future purpose begin in the spring., summer and end of fall to avoid any spider from hatching during the winter months. Good Luck.

My Pets do all the dirty work, THEY EAT THEM!
If you have a spider problem, buy yourself some cats and a dog. I have 1 dog and 2 cats. They LOVE to terrorize creepy crawlers! Once they are done doing that with them, THEY EAT THEM!!!
