My guy works in the IT sector, not a very formal envionment but apparently the men wear a jacket at work. They dont wear suits. He is shopping for one of these 'jackets'. I go along trying to help but i dont see the difference between the suit and the 'blazer or what ever this jacket thing is. Any suggestions? or links to help me out. He has spent so much time looking for one that I want to help out, but I havent fully understood what to look for in a good blazer.

a suit is a matching jacket and pants. this is very dressy. a blazer or a sport jacket does not go with matching pants and is business casual or slightly dressy.

A suit is a matched outfit. Either pants and matching jacket. Or pants, with matching jacket and vest (3 piece suit).

The dictionary defines blazer as a light weight, informal sports jacket.

Its usually the material and thickness. Some brands dont really make a distiction. Sport coats are usually longer. I would just try to buy suit pants that match...wouldnt want to risk looking tacky.

fabrics also play a large part btw them....ex. silk for a suit jacket, corduroy for a blazer
