Since you're starting out you should deffinately try a box of Playtex SlimFits. They have a plastic applicater for easy insertion and they're very slender and small (about the width of your pinky finger!) so they're ideal for beginners. After you're used to that then you can try other great brands like Playtex Gentle Glide and Playtex Sport.
As for the bad tampons.. I've tried Tampax Pearl and Tampax SatinTeen Cardboards and they have always leaked. I bought one box of each and I never bought anything else by them ever again. The Tampax brand tampons open up widthwise and vertically so whenever you take them out it's like a long rectangle. It was awful!
Also, OB tampons are great for people who are experienced with tampons - I woudln't recommend them to a beginner as they don't contain an applicater. To insert OB tampons all you have to do is pull the string on the tampon from side to side to open up the base, put your finger on the base of the actual tampon, and then use your finger to guide the tampon wherever it feels most comfortable.
After you're used to regular marketed tampons I highly recommend switching to a healthy tampon like Natracare. They don't have the risk of TSS, they're made of 100% cotton (regular tampons contain dioxin, rayon, and bleach!), they're organic, and healthier! (Try: www.natracare.com to find a store near you!)
Also, after 2 years of tampon experience I think you should try to switch to a menstrual cup as they are more economical and more environmentally friendly. Best of luck!

I like tampax and I have used those for a long time. There is a higher chance of getting toxic shock syndrome with playtex, and it says so right on the box. There are some you can buy that are a slender variety, if you're afraid of being uncomfortable try those first and see how it goes. Just remember this- a name brand will always be pretty comfortable. If you're broke and have to buy a store brand, you won't be so comfortable. Good luck! It is so much cleaner to use the tampons instead of the pads and you don't have to worry about how your clothes might look.

Let me start off by saying that they don't make tampons specially for virgins and young girls. I personally like Tampax Pearl. OB are a pain because they don't come with an applicator. Also, I find the ones with plastic applicators easier to use.

I like Tampax Pearl.
If your tampon leaks, that means that you have maxed out the absorbancy. Either change it more often or use a higher absorbancy.
To start I'd recommend getting a slender or teen variety with a PLASTIC applicator. Don't get cardboard, they hurt.

First of all, I use tampax pearl. I love those! But if you use tampons, you will not mess up your virginity. They are fine to use. Hope this helps.

hello, for your first time i recommend a tampon with and applicator, but plastic applicators aren't biodegradable so if i were you i would use either one with a cardboard applicator or one with no applicator!
please be good to the enviroment and dont us tampons with plastic applicators, plastic is FOREVER!!
