She does swimming (like me) and she's on her period.

Well a tampon would be her only option if she is going swimming but I wouldn't advise it for her to wear one while she is not swimming. Just remind her to take it out and put on a pad when she is done with her swim.

It's absolutly fine for a 12 year old to use a tampon. I was 10, almost 11, when I started using them! (I started my period less than a month after my 9th birthday.) If she's never used them before and has never had anything in her vagina before then she should start out using the "lites" or "regulars". Also, remind her to change them according to how heavy her flow is. As she gets used to them, she can use other sizes according to her flow (like "super" and "super plus"). Just remember to never use them overnight because you're not supposed to have a tampon in for more than 5-6 hours. Just talk to her to make sure she knows how to put them in and take them out and how to handle if they aren't in all the way and all that unfun stuff!!! Good luck to your sister!

She HAS to. If she is going swimming it is not safe for her, you or anybody else if she doesn't wear a tampon. Would YOU want to swim in her blood? Cause that's what you will be doing if she doesn't wear tampons.

(Water does NOT stop a period)

there is nothing wrong with a 12 year old wearing a tampon..they come in junior sizes you know..as long as it fits comfortably and does the job and she is educated well enough in hygene and the dangers involved with tampons .
