When asked that question, the proper reply would be:
"Do you want to talk to person in charge or someone who knows what's going on?"

The reason for visitors from another place to want to meet the leader of a population is because they wish to discuss foreign relations. If you want to ally with a group, or deliver a threatening ultimatum, you need to talk to the person in charge.
I would not lead an alien to Bush, but that's just because Bush is a moron who would screw the whole thing up.

That cliche was actually first uttered in an early sci-fi movie (unsure of which one). The line, like so many others from American pop culture, blended into the mainstream. It always strikes me as amusing that American (myself included) instantly think we are important enough to warrant being the subject of first contact. It could easily be a tribe on a Polynesian island, or an organization for that matter. The more important question is this: Why would an advanced civilization even want to visit us? With the exception of Anthropologists and Missionaries, who would want to visit some primitive tribe in the middle of no-mans-land?

i would say this is more an opinion than a fact based answer.the "take me to your leader" quote is used to inform the aliens' superiors what the intelligence level of our leader would be that controls the rest of the race. looks like we are in trouble because if they were taken to george w. bush they would think our race was filled with a bunch of spineless morons that are just puppets for the corporate world.they should ask to "take me to the hood" cause then they would jump on their spaceships and would never return.no george w. bushes in the real backbone of america.take me to your leader.........not in this country

This is because despite several years of observation they have yet to observe anyone on the planet that represents most of the people on our planet. So, they are simply confused about who our leader might be.
As for President Bush I would have to say no I would not because they asked for a leader.

We have no leaders, only politicians. I think that frustrates the Aliens.

Actually, I would refer them to Dick Cheney, but if they are smart enough to master space travel, they could at least figure out who they really need to speak to

I suppose they might say this to a boyscout or girlscout at camp. I would prefer a cheerleader for a pro football team.

Because they figured out "take me to your lizard" doesn't mean the same thing here.
