low resistivity = conductance

I work in electrical wholesale. Copper needs low resistivity otherwise it would heat up. Imagine an electrical stove-top range, it has a high resistance. Same holds true for the heating elements found in space heaters. More resistance, more heat.

electrical resistance is simular to all kinds of resistance,if to mutch resistance heat is generated and the demand for more electrond goes up. the friction can cause copper to get hot enough to turs some of its mass to light energy,Think of a car going down a nice smoth hyway rolling along nice and smoth. Now imagine the same car going acrost uneven ground with a lot of shrubs in the way and you have to run over them so it slowes U down and U got to push down harder on the gas pettel to keep going fast.mabe hit a small tree or two that will really slow U down.hope this helps U

All of the earlier answers are correct and the first one is very good but nobody mentioned the fact that aluminium does not have much tensile strength, and that as a result of this, some high voltage aluminium cables have a steel cable in the centre to give them the required tensile strength. Aluminium bus-bars are very popular in low voltage work because they do not need to be flexible or possess much tensile strength but yet provide the benefits of being light and cheap.

The lower resistance an element has, the less energy/power it loses to friction, radiation, heat, and other forms of energy. Tungsten gets used in light bulbs because it has a high resistance, so the electricity gets converted to heat and lots of light. Just the opposite is desired in wiring, because you want as much of the power as possible to get where its going

If a conductor's Resistance is high it impedes the flow of current and the circuit will be needing more power to operate a load.

Needs???
it IS low resistivity
because of the outer electronic shell

To minimize the energy loss to heat.

Because you don't want to lose energy.
