I think that things are publicised more widely these days..... you have BBC News 24, Sky News, CNN...... It's so in our faces it has become part of the norm. However some cases do get the justice they deserve and media can play some part in helping. Look at the Holly and Jessica murders, they caught Ian Huntley from the interview that they did.
Trouble is society has become a 'lets blame everyone else' society and no one is taught to stand up and take the blame. Infact the world has gone way too PC and common sense doesn't seem to be a part of it anymore. Some of this has come from the US where they agree stupid lawsuits that most people with common sense would laugh out of court.
Kids aren't taught respect any more either. My sisters and I were only saying yesterday that police should have more powers and should definately be able to give kids a good cuff round the ear like they used to. We also think that kids should do military service for two years like they do in other countries too. And parent should definately be made far more responsible.
Although it is still a small minority that are causing this problem.

Yes it bothers more of society than you actually think. Many people have become afraid to be deviant and take a firm stand for their beliefs in many ways because they don't want to be politically incorrect. I have many theories on why people are the way they are: My first and foremost is because people have become overwhelmed in chasing the dollar bill, now Benjamin, that we all have done our part in the neglect of our self concept and the family. People don't get involved with one another and bond to each other. They rush around as if they are a lab rat in a maze. They have forgotten that life is about loving one another unconditionally. We don't respect one another anymore. The world has become sad. This is the reason why I ask myself on a daily basis did I do anything that mattered to someone today, if nothing else but something simple like answer a question of a stranger or write a letter to a loved one who needed a kind word for their day.

You have a point-- human history is filled with misery caused by war, imperialistic conquest, exploitation, injustice, poverty, disaster, sickness, and death. Why do we allow disorder and destruction on earth when we should know better-tough question.. While there have been sincere rulers who have desired to help mankind, their efforts have not succeeded. What is wrong with us you ask --I think of more questions from that--: Who has the right to rule? To decide what is best. Should there be the Ruler of humans, or can they rule themselves successfully apart from any laws or ruler? Is there anyone truly free from all vices worthy enough to decide for all the way to find this peace we so lack.? I think Greed and Selfishness play a part in what is wrong with us. I don't know what other answer to give-it is a tough one.- unless your religious it doesn't have a satisfactory answer. Just my view.

It bothers me also - more so since becoming a Mum. I heard about that 4 year old too, it's so shocking. Sometimes I'd like to take my family and go and live on a desert island somewhere, away from all the hate!
I personally believe it's indicative of the lack of respect in our society these days.

It is horrible, but consider that the population of the human species is nearly seven billion, and that news reporting of murders and violence in the states have risen dramatically.
Decades ago, there was no use of DNA tests. Today, prosecutors can at least be somewhat more certain that they have the right culprit.

1. low of moral values.
2. rejection of GOD,
3. corruption,
and this is price we pay for VERY OPEN society. i'm not saying we should be close, but in modern society people tend to think they can do whatever they want, how they want, and they don't stop for a minute to think about consequences.
However, there is hope. once we start changing ourselves foir better, we change around us.
love and compasion is there, it just harder to find it. but it does exist. otherwise we'd perish extinct LONG time ago.

Yes it bothers me. The punishments no longer fit the crimes in this country. The people who make the laws are corrupt themselves.

it seems worse because we hear about more; we're over-saturated with bad news.
crime and violence are actually on the way down, but you'd never know that.
turn off your TV. you'll feel better. you won't realize how paranoid it makes us until you live without it for a month.
