The Ming Dynasty ruled China from A.D. 1368 to 1644. It followed the Mongol Yuan Dynasty. The Ming rulers restored traditional institutions, such as the civil service, which the Mongols had suspended. During the Ming period Chinese authority extended into Mongolia, Korea, Southeast Asia, and the Ryukyu Islands. The Ming Dynasty was especially important in the arts. Artists produced wonderful porcelain, jades, bronzes, ivories, lacquerware, etc. There were also major achievements in painting, especially in the "Wu" school and the "Che" school. There were many new developments in ceramics. Great quantities of it were imported and imitated in the West. In literature the Ming sought a return to classical prose and poetry styles. Novels and drama flourished. By the way another reason that the Ming Dynasty was called "brilliant" was because "Ming" means "bright" in Chinese! I hope that this has been a help to you.
