I can see a fine. But BEHIND BARS. A person should be REMOVED from society for smoking pot? I don't get it.

No law is going to be acceptable for everyone. However, if you are aware of the consequences, and still commit the offense, you have little arguement.

Keep in mind, a large percentage of drug users commit crimes to support their habit. This is the premise to put them behind bars. The courts do have discretion with this, and should take everything into consideration.

I know it's really quite ridiculous when it's just a personal amount. I don't use pot - tried when I was young - didn't like it. But, even then - 30 years back I guess - it was stupid to send one to jail.

Have you watched Reefer Madness? I think its from the 30's and today quite comical though I thought I heard some politician used it when describing how bad he thought pot was.

Busted -- If you drive when impaired by pot you are as bad as a drunk driver.

Sensible -- Of course getting prohibited drugs has to be done illegally. Let's find a way to take this illegal trade away from the drug dealers.

Agreed. The punishment doesn't fit the crime. A logical punishment for possession would be dispossession. In other words, take it away from them. They lose the money they spent on it and the m.j. I've never met a threatening pot head.

i am with you . smoking pot does not kill people like a drunk behind the wheel of the car . what it does do is keep the fast food and convenience stores in business , due to munchies . the government could tax the sh it out of pot smokers like the cigarette smokers, they could probably wipe out the national debt. also pot smokers won't quit like cigarette smokers. i quit cigs but i refuse to quit smoking pot !!! i am also willing to hire a lawyer to get the charges reduced when and if necessary.

I think you just need a better understanding of the law and the people it is meant to protect. With drug testing being very much a part of getting/keeping employment, those who can't work need to find a way to get their drugs. Usually illegally.

Until marijuana is legalized, it is a crime to possess it. Perhaps they were arrested for PWID. That is very different than simple possession.
