The American Dream is a house two cars a successful marriage two and a half children and two cars with a two car garage, membership at a country club etc. The American dream is being Upper Middle Class. It relates to me because I pay extra taxes for their tax breaks.

Being financially secure so that I would be able to help my elderly Mom. She's 79 years old and lives alone but, her income is tight. I would love to buy her a home that is paid for and is located in favorite place; Florida. Plus, I would have the ability to travel, see the world, and avoid the cold, winter months !! Yeah, to have the dream of being wealthy seems selfish.

To achieve wealth beyond that of your parents. Sometimes that does mean suburbs, white picket fence, 2.5 kids and a dog. For me, I'm aiming higher.
