do box turtles swim in water that is shallow?

Box turtles do not swim, period. They bathe in shallow water, but they absolutely do not swim.

Hi, I have a box turtle and once a week I place him in shallow water and let him swim a little bit. He seems to enjoy it, but I don't let him stay for long. Just remember, sometimes they live in the wild, usually next to a river or lake, and they have to swim in order to chatch a small prey.

Well I had many gorwing up and the best things that worked for me was this.... keep the turtle indoors with a low-heat heat lamp, depending on the size of the turtle, litle water ang lots of land ( usually gras and dirt with a few sticks). mostly vegatables to eat but u can also go to a pet store and get reptile food for them too. Good luck with the turtle.

Not well. These are land turtles and should not be kept in water enclosure because it will cause stress and illness. If you are keeping a box turtle read up and learn more about them. They are primarily vegetarian land turtles.

No, but they do need a shallow dish that is easy to get in and out of to soak in when necessary. Here is a good box turtle website:
