No website seems to think it's politically correct to list these, but what are the characteristics of people from different European countries?
For example, Italians have dark hair and dark skin, but are there other less obvious characteristics? What about the other ethnicities? Scotish/Irish/English/Welch. French, Dutch, Slavic, Russian, Austrian, Greek? What are the easiest ways to differenciate between ethnic backgrounds.

I'm not trying to stereotype, but in historic reinactments they always use people that look like they're from the target country. We watched a video on the French Revolution and everyone in it looked French (well, except for Marie Antionette, she was Austrian), but they picked people that fit in so well. I could only broadly tell why they looked French to me, but they did. In cinematography, how do they use the stereotypes to reinforce the setting of the film?

I only used the Italian thing as an example. I actually know a guy that's Italian, but I couldn't even tell until I heard him mention it.
I guess what I'm asking is: "Is there any specific characteristics that are so unique to the general populace of ethnicities that they are used to represent them?"
For example, in my Spanish book there's a page with pictures of people from all the major Spanish speaking countries and there were differences between them. Not big differences, but something that people from those countries would have noticed.
