There are quite a few reasons for this, It could be an internal fan is failing or clogged up with dust, or your hard disk is failing or very fragmented. The windows indexing system is running.
I would do the following, in this order, turn off indexing , run disk cleanup, then defragment the drive. Open up the case and locate all fans, Look at them for signs of wear and dust clogging up the fan blades and heatsinks. Periodicaly stop each fan in turn by touching the center of the fan for a second. Switch off and dedust anything that looks clogged up.
Listen to your pc after each stage to see if the sound stops or changes. If when you stop a fan the sound stops, replace that fan. If the sound is still there, it may be time to invest in a new hard disk, before the old one goes altogether.........
Hope this helps.

We then desperate to pass the SPCA path. We befell there as a family contributors become returning an adoption that did not paintings out...and it become a Yellow Lab. We had to leap with the aid of some hoops yet each week later she got here homestead with us. It really depends on the area the noise is coming from. som hard drives "wirr or crunch" more than others, this is not abnormal. also your fans will tend to make a louder wirr sound if the pc is running hot. I would not be to concerned about that unless it was a constant no stop sound.

it may be a faulty fan in your system, try unplugging each 1 only momentarily 1 at a time to see if this is the problem and what 1 needs replacing.

It's that harddrive spinning. What is causing it to spin could be adware, spyware, or if you have a program running in the background. Run a spyware/adware check and see if that helps at all.
