I have a random selection of newspaper/magazine pictures and articles I drag out. I turn the real life article into a short story or just describe the picture. Another tool I use is to start with "I remember...." and just keep writing different memories until I free myself up a bit. I can't write with music on, I have to have the TV on in another room.

Stop writing.

Go out and do something you like to do, and when the ideas start coming back, get back to work.
