I'm with you. I find it repulsive when a man refers to his wife as "Mom." She's his wife and she has a name. If he thinks of her as a mother, well that is, as you put it: just gross.

Our whole family kinda does that. You call each person by the name that the children call them. That way the children don't start calling Grandma, Joan instead or Mom by their children. Heres an example:

I call my Mom, Nana for the kids and so does everyone else.
I call my Grandma, Grandma for the kids and so does everyone else.
They call me Mom for the kids. And we all call Dad, Dad for the kids.
My Grandma still refers to my Grandpa as Daddy. I never thought of it as weird, its just what has always been done.

The only time we use first names anymore is if we can't get someones attention. It tends to be something that sticks after you do it for 20 some years.

My grandparents referred to each other as "mama" and "daddy" in a sweet, old-fashioned way. I guess it would depend what content it was used in. My husband will say to my children "Go get mama" but he isn't personally calling me his mama. For a husband to call his wife Mom in a serious maternal way may be a little odd, but these days alot of guys call their women ma, mama, or mommy, just like it is cool for a female to call her man daddy sometimes. It's playful and flirty, and I'm sure they didn't trip and bump their head and really think that's their parent. It's just a thing you hear alot of (where I come from, anyway).

Only if they have children. When they use the words Mom and Dad so often, it's easy to copy what the kids are calling you. But I don't think it's a common thing for childless couples to do it, unless the man is a MaMa's Boy!!!

There was a time when it was cute and acceptable. Now it isn't. People want to be called by their name or by mushy pet names. I guess if it's your husband doing it, you can always start referring to him as "Mr. Smith" or whatever his last name might be. That might put an end to the Mom and Dad thing.

Completely normal if they have kids and he is calling her Mom in context with the family. Gross if he is still calling her MOm in the bedroom.

Well I though ti was weird, but now my husband and I refer to each other as mama or daddy. We do that because my 2 year old daughter was starting to call us by our names since she heard us calling each other by our names.

my grandfather refers to my grandma as "mom" when talking to their kids and "grandmom" when talking to their grandkids.
but addressing her directly he just calls her by her name. it is a culture thing and also shows respect, since she is the matriarch of the family.

also many hispanic couples will call each other "mami" and "papi" even if they don't have kids! and parents will call their little girls "mami" and their little boys "papi". obviously, they are not saying that their 3-yr old is a mother! it is just a term of endearment and familiarity, blurred from its exact meaning. don't take it so literally!

Yes it is normal. My husband calls me mama. My parents called each other mommy and daddy most of their married life ,

If they have children together, then yes I think it's normal since they are referencing themselves as mom and dad to their child.
But if not then it is kinda weird.
