Babe Ruth is the popular example -- so good with the bat they moved him to the outfield.

Lefty O'Doul failed as a pitcher, but came back as a darn good outfielder. Smoky Joe Wood suffered an injury to his pitching arm, but reinvented himself as an outfielder.

Pitchers who were decent or better with the bat: Walter Johnson, Wes Ferrell, Warren Spahn, Bob Gibson, Don Newcombe, Don Drysdale. Rick Rhoden once started a game as the DH. Brooks Kieschnick was the only two-way player in the majors in living memory.

If you want to go way back Babe Ruth was the perfect example of a pitcher who became a great batter.

Wes Ferrell was one of the best. So was Warren Spahn.

Zambrano is good these days. There are others. AL fans miss out on the most under rated exciting thing -- a pitcher who can hit.

One of the greatest hitters in baseball history, Babe Ruth, was also a fabulous pitcher (see his stats with the Red Sox in both the regular season and the World Series).

Babe Ruth and Rich Ankiel were pitchers before they became power hitters

Mike Hampton before he got injury prone and Livan Hernandez are probably the best two who are actually pitchers.

Besides Babe Ruth?

Mike Hampton is a pretty good hitting pitcher.

Yeah, C.C's been really good for a pitcher. I think that if the Indians can't hold onto him once he's a free agent that he'll try to get on a national league team just so he can hit.
