My drivers license had expired, but I have pletty of ID's with my name, birth date and picture on them. They weren't going to let me fly home! And they must have thought this (then) 56 year old lady was going to blow up the plane because I had tooth paste in my purse. I was at Reagan Int'l airport early, and just barely made the plane because I was searched, held by the police, had air blown at me, shoes removed........horrible

Last nov flew southwest, despite being deposited in the departure lounge in a wheelchair when I rolled up to board the flight attendant didn't bother turning over the page on the manifest to see if my name was there , he said I didn't exist.

Two minutes to the plane one of the other passengers suggested he turn over the manifest. Voila, guess whose name was there.

Not impressed with South West don't plan on ever flying them again.

However Denver airport 5 years, again in a wheelchair , I'm legally blind the security guy tells me to get out the chair , says to me if you're blind where's your guide dog? His supervisor told him to shut up apologized perfusely rolled me through the xray thing frisked me with a wand and kept apologizing until he got me to the departure lounge.

I realize some of the security guys make minimum wage but a little disability sensitivity training wouldn't hurt.

I have had all my luggage searched coming into Florida from Jamaica because I was carrying wooden statues. That was before security. Two guys behind me in straw hats and shorts said: " OH Yeah, she looks like a real drug dealer.lol". that was before security.

After enhanced security I traveled from Costa Rica through I don't remember how many customs and as we were leaving the airport in ATL an observant lady saw nail scissors in my carry on bag.

All the way home with scissors in my bag. Make you feel comfortable? Not me, not at all.

Happened to me just last Tuesday. My son and I were flying back from San Diego. He by the way is a Flight Attendent with Southwest Airlines, but he was not working at the time. He had changed our flight time back at the last minute, and we were on preferred standby. So of course he passes through, and they pulled me over for security search. I had to do the whole back room, pat down, wand search my bag and purse thing. First time that ever happened to me. I just went with the flow, just doing their job, better be safe than sorry.

I was going through the security line at BWI airport on my
way to Green Bay, Wisconsin to visit my daughter. Since
I am a knitter, I naturally put my knitting into my carry-on
for those long waits at the gate. The night before, I checked TSA's website to see if I could bring my beloved needles, the tools of my trade. I was glad to see they were approved.
When I got into the line, my bag was searched and the officer pulled out my knitting. "Knitting needles", he said gruffly, "will you step aside please." I reminded him that they are on the TSA allowed list. After a few minutes of
consultation with another officer, they finally decided to
let me go. Imagine, a 64 year old grandmother being
detained.

Only one incident flying out of Barbara Jordan airport in Austin, Texas a few years ago. The TSA agent had me sit in a chair and remove my shoes. Then I was gone over with the wand in addition to the security pass-through. I asked why the special treatment and he indicated the presence of a gentlemen wearing a blazer who was carrying a clipboard and told me they were being checked out by their regional headquarters. At that point I reached inside my carry-on bab, withdrew the downloaded photos of known terrorists from the Justice Department web site and said in a clear voice: "Gentlemen. This is who you're looking for!". Those waiting to go through a security check got a good laugh from it.
But, I don't really mind all of the security. In the late 1960s I went through Fukuoka airport in Japan on a trip to Seoul Korea. Security was non-existent. So, thanks to the involvement of several members of "Seki-Gun-Ha" (Red Army faction) on the plane, we wound up landing in Pyongyang North Korea! Took several hours for another aircraft to haul us out of that dreadful little dictatorship.

Security line in Raleigh, an old man in front of me was trying to get his cowboy boots off and fell and broke his hip. I wore clothes with elastic, a bra with a plastic clasp and took everything out of my purse but my id and keys and cash. Another time I had my camera opened and the film ruined when going into Mexico.

Before it was deemed illegal, I flew frequently to Houston from JFK every four to six weeks to visit my college son. I had to spread my arms and legs out as if doing the jumping jacks and have myself checked with a wand to see if I was carrying any contraband of any sort. Great fun! (UGH!) This was so frequent, I really was weary of it all. I am all for security checks, but it just went too far. Coming home from Houston was odd because my son's godmother always gave me good ole' Texas food to bring back with me; ribs, cornbread, pecan pie, so I packed a cooler to take aboard. The food was ALWAYS x-ray. . . . . . please!!!!!

i have shoes that are flats that have no metal. the sole is glued to the leather flat. those are my flying shoes . used to be fine before they demanded everyone remove them regardless of if they contained metal.

i do not carry any change if i am flying / do not carry wear any jewelry. i did not think about an underwire bra. that tripped it off . to my humiliation / embarrassment i was asked by FOUR TSA screeners to be wanded in front of everyone. was so degrading. then he asked me loudly, are you wearing an underwire bra in front of these huge lines.

i replied YES ... I am wearing control top panty hose and a girdle too.

I hate those TSA screeners ... they are so rude.
