Just for information sake, this isn't these kids first run in with the law. They all have a history of violence. The more times you commit a crime, the more severe the punishment is. They need to be off the streets not just for this, but for the combined effort they've put into assaulting people.

I don't agree with fighting whether it's black on white, white on black or races against each other, but when it come to this particular situation racism plays a big part. There is no way you are fully aware of all the incidents that took place prior to this assault. If you did, you wouldn't have posted this question or you are racist yourself. This world is still racially divided and equality for all does not exist. If this kid almost died, why was he out at a function that same night. Shouldn't he have been in ICU???? African Americans are still fighting for equal rights and that is what the protest is all about. Know the facts before ranting and raving.

You should read the story again to get ALL the facts b/c you obviously missed the parts about the nooses being hung from the "white" tree...which started the whole thing to begin with.
You also must've skimmed over the part where the white students pullled a gun on the black students & the black students themselves were victims of assault. Here's some more info for you:
In September 2006, as the school year kicked off, a black Jena High School student asked the vice principal if he and some friends could sit under an oak tree where the white students typically congregated.
Out in the Open
A high school fight. A black teen convicted by an all-white jury. Soaring racial tensions.
Told by the vice principal they could sit wherever they pleased, the student and his pals plopped down under the sprawling branches of a shade tree in the campus courtyard.
The next day, students arrived at school to find three nooses hanging from those branches.
"I seen them hanging. I'm thinking the KKK, you know, were hanging nooses. They want to hang somebody. Real nooses, the ones you see on TV, are the kind of nooses they were," Robert Bailey, 17, one of the Jena 6, told the syndicated radio show "Democracy Now!"
The school's principal recommended expulsion for those behind the nooses, according to the local newspaper in nearby Alexandria. Instead, The Town Talk reported, a school district committee overruled the recommendation and suspended three white students for three days for hanging the nooses, a gesture written off as a prank.
"Toilet paper, that's a prank, you know what I'm saying?" Bailey told the radio show. "Nooses hanging there -- nooses ain't no prank."
A series of scuffles ensued over the next three months as racial tension at the school became palpable.
The district attorney was summoned to address the student body. Off-campus fights were reported. Bailey said he had a beer bottle broken over his head in one incident, a shotgun pulled on him in another.
On November 30, someone torched the school's main academic building. The arson remains unsolved, but many suspect it's linked to the discord strangling Jena High.

You people need to quite with the talk of nooses. They weren't connected (1). To you people talking about taunting with the "N-word", note where (1) says
--
"We could not prove that, because the statements of the students themselves do not make any mention of nooses, of trees, of the 'N' word or any other word of racial hate."
--
Back to the nooses, people weren't even offended by them when they were hung:
---
...the nooses were cut down because black and white students "were playing with them, pulling on them, jump-swinging from them, and putting their heads through them," according to a black teacher who witnessed the scene.
(2)
---
Even if the evidence pointed to the contrary and they were connected, you're insane to think that justifies a vicious 6 on 1 attack.
Now to answer your question, Seamus, I'm not that surprised by the support. Don't forget that they also supported Michael Vick, Crips co-founder Tookie Williams, OJ, and so on.

He was taunting them and calling them the "n" word when they were doing a peaceful protest. I swear, do you guys even ATTEMPT to learn the whole story or are you all under the impression that whites can do no wrong and whatever the black kids did they did for no reason other than that they were racist and barbaric.
I also think beating the kid to a pulp was a ridiculous thing to do, but I'm not putting the white kid on a pedestal and crying about how horrible it was for him to be beaten up. I don't pity racist filth.

i cant believe people are supporting a kid who was calling those 6 kids racial slurs or other kids hanging nooses in tree's.
horrible isn't it?
and a school fight does not deserve 20 years in prison. doesn't even fit the crime. that is not justice...that's revenge.
BOTH sides need to be punished according to the JUST laws that we established.
LMAO...yea, I'm sure he almost died at the school function later on that night.
how do you feel about the 6 white people that kidnapped and assaulted that black female in West Virgina?
a couple of weeks prior to that...white kids beat a black kid with a glass bottle...what happen to that case? where is the justice in that?
if the kid would have ended up with mental problems or even death..then that is when the DA should push for the highest charge. BUT that did not occur...therefore, it's not attempted murder. it's assault and battery.
to this case..people should really know the law and be caught up on their bill of rights.
the noose in the tree was a HATE crime which is a federal offense and NO one got charged. just 3 days suspension. yea, those 6 boys do need to be punished (as well as those white kids who commited crimes also)...but they should not be tired as adults or have attempted murder charges.

I'm grossed out. it's a really bad situation.
I'm convinced that some kids (who were white) just did it to have fun and didn't realize what they were doing. However, that is NOT an excuse. Now the whole town in up in arms.
This situation absolutly sucks. I think those white kids needed to have the **** kicked out of them but not by the black kids, they needed to have the **** kicked out of them by sending them (the white kids) to jail for a little while.
Now, those white kids opened pandoras box and it can't be closed. this whole town is going to erupt.
score one for idiocy by some kids who just thought it was harmless. now I totally beleive they should be legally punished for it. Just as I beleive the black kids should be punished for what they did.

i'm so unhappy and indignant and dissatisfied. maybe that's naive, yet I was hoping situations like this one did no longer exist anymore. needless to say there remains racism, yet this $hit is like we are back interior the '50s. i think of that's ridiculous, especially once you seem on the disparity between how the black young ones have been charged and how the white young ones have been charged. this entire united states of america ought to stand up and demand a metamorphosis of venue, and a revision of the information if that's a hazard at this element. White Jena electorate must be surely ashamed of themselves. Aw, d@mn, now i'm worked up returned... i'm sorry, I ought to upload something after examining a number of those responses, especially ebola regardless of. anybody must be disturbed on the coping with of those events. putting nooses in a tree isn't a stupid prank, and if it had exceeded off on your grandpa you may agree. you are able to no longer overlook appropriate to the violence that exceeded off in the previous the "Jena 6" incident, which became itself retaliation for a black pupil being beat up by ability of a set of white pupils. Even in the previous that, there have been distinctive fights and incidents, alongside with a white guy pulling a shotgun on black youths in a convenience shop. They wrestled it from him and ran away, and have been later charged with theft (!). back to the incident to hand, no person is asserting that each physique's harmless - the two white and black have accomplished issues they must be held responsible for, little doubt. even nonetheless, whilst the white baby have been given beat up, he spent a pair of hours interior the wellness facility and became in church that nighttime, the place his associates stated that he appeared high-quality. So how, by ability of any stretch of the mind's eye, are you able to cost those 6 boys with tried 2d-degree homicide?! If the baby became in a coma on existence help interior the wellness facility, i could desire to work out how which cost could in high-quality condition. yet in ingredient of actuality that the gang of white young ones who jumped a black baby have been given basically misdemeanor attack rates, and the Jena 6 are on trial for homicide. If usa is unquestionably the equivalent, civilized society we declare to be, we can step up and say that that's no longer precise. we ought to, or we are all in basic terms cowards and liars who placed on a faux front approximately equality and justice for all.
