Because Americans have a need to be the best in the world even if they can only do it by being the best at a game that no other country plays.

It was often thought that is so called because it was originated by a newspaper called 'The New York World' . However the title of this championship may be confusing to some people from countries where baseball is not a major sport (or even where it is), because the "World" Series is confined to the champions of two baseball leagues that currently operate only in the United States and Canada.

The explanation is that when the term "World's Championship Series" was first used in the 1880s, baseball at a highly-skilled level was almost exclusively confined to North America, especially the United States. Thus it was understood that the winner of the major league championship was the best baseball team in the world. The title of this event was soon shortened to "World's Series" and later to "World Series"

In England baseball is called Softball and is a girl's game.

Because no other country has a strong enough baseball league to compete with the American one; in the case of Japan, the Dominican Republic and any other country that produces good players, their top players go to the U.S. to play, so Major League Baseball ends up with the top players from around the world.

Because when they first began playing the World Series, the U.S. was the only place in the World where professional baseball was played.
