I wouldn't give these moneygrubbers a nickle, I once donated a pint of blood for my mothers operation and she didn't need it so they sold it to another patient. I went and made them pay me for the blood the same amount they charged the other patient......#######

I trust them. I give them my blood and my money. There's no other orginization that I know that helps out with collecting and distributing blood that is needed for people to live. Besides that they help with first response efforts for disasters, help the military and prisoners, and assist with many other things. I know they have had issues in the past but I still trust them and the people involved have good goals. To support some other's blogs, there's less over head if you find a local charity to the disaster. Unfortuantly, the Red Cross has to support functions all over the world and the lead office has become a political possition.

Yes, I do. And I have donated hundreds of hours of my time to volunteer. I have seen the work they do first hand and I honestly do NOT see where some of these answers came from distrusting the Red Cross. Show me some hard evidence, the kind which will stand up in court.

Edit: And to the the person who donated blood and then wanted it back. What did you expect them to DO with it? Dump it into the garbage? At least someone else got the benefit! I do not know that we can make a substitute for human blood yet, which means the only place it CAN come from is people! How could you BE so selfish as to want it back since it didn't need to be used (luckily for you) for your personal purpose?

My answer to that is NO. I am from the island of Kauai in Hawaii and in 92 we had a catastrophic Hurricane. It was Hurricane Iniki. The island was completely destroyed. We were all living in tents during our peak storm season. The red cross came handed out tents and lanterns.which were promptly destroyed during the next storm. (on average our storm winds reach upwards of 65 mph, no match for a tent.) we went back to the red cross and were told we had received our allotted help and their was nothing they could do.If you think it took them a long time to get help to Katrina victims imagine an island in the middle of the ocean. Our true saviors came in a most unexpected form, The Salvation Army. My daughter was 2 at the time and had been refusing to eat the military rations the Red cross had provided. I was scared she would starve. I will NEVER forget the day the Salvation Army came and was handing out fresh milk. It was the first thing my child had in days. I cried. They gave us clothes, food, water, tents, a cooking stove, and NEVER REFUSED ANYONE HELP AGAIN WHEN IT WAS NECESSARY. I have always donated to Salvation Army since and encourage others to do the same. THEY saved our life. THEY saved our island. NOT the government, and DEFINITELY NOT THE RED CROSS !!

Absolutly NOT!

Not after what they tried pulling after 9/11. Tons of donations were given with the strict understanding it was going to go to the surviving family members. The Red Cross after receiving record donations said they weren't going to do with it what they said they were instead they decided after the fact to keep 2/3rds of the moneys for future needs...(see first link below in source list).

Give them donations? me? Not a chance! I rather drive to where the need is and hand it out myself.

After looking into the Red Cross, the United Way and other groups I decided if theres a group I want to donate money too I will donate it directly so they actually get the bulk of it not a small percentage of what I wanted to give. Those groups make a living off of our charity...not mine, not anymore! I recommend you give directly to the charities you would like to give too, they will actually get what you expected them to receive instead of pennies on the dollar.

as for the one who said:
"Edit: And to the the person who donated blood and then wanted it back. What did you expect them to DO with it?"

Certainly not charge the person who did receive it! I wouldn't want these con artists to profit off my donation either.

If I found they were charging people for the blood "I" donated I'd never donate my blood to them ever again. I donate it with the belief that someone who needs it will get it to save their life and they would pay exactly what I got for it NOTHING! Hell...maybe I'll just start donating directly at the hospital.

No, the Red Cross are a controlled by the same institutions that instigate wars, not that the people themselves are bad, but the institution is corrupt. They are nothing more than an intelligence front for differents countries. Why do you think they are somehow allowed behind enemy lines?

look into the redcross only about 1 cent on your dollar go to help, the other 99% goes to administrative costs - thats was I prefer United Way - its just the opposite.

I'm sure they help with some things but not to the extent they could with all the money donated and profits from their Blood Drives. I am glad they have saved some lives but the should be doing alot more. So I would have to say no.

YES! It's not the Red Cross's fault.

When aid can't reach an area, it's usually the fault of the local government and bad planning.

Even in these circumstances, Red Cross always seems to be a step ahead and reaches disaster areas fairly quickly.
