Easy, you take the mean of the x, and the mean of the y.

So the x is (-1+8)/2 = 3.5
y is (4+2)/2 = 3

The midpoint is (3.5, 3)

Midpoint of x value is (4+5)/2 = 9/2 Midpoint of y value is (11+7)/2 = 18/2 = 9 Midpoint is (9/2, 9) or (4.5, 9)

The above answers are correct. You should get (3.5, 3).

Finding the midpoint is like finding the average. You are finding the middle of the two points. If you remember back to when you found the average of two numbers, you would add them together and divide by two.

The same applies here. Add the x's and divide by two. Then add the y's and divide by two.

Since the midpoint is a point, make sure you put your answer in parentheses.

The formula for a midpoint between 2 points on a graph is:

( (x1+x2)/2 , (y1+y2)/2 )

So 8+(-1)=7, 7/2= 3.5

and

4+2=6, 6/2= 3

The answer is: (3.5, 3)

Take the first number, add them and divide by 2, and do the same for the last number.

((-1 + 8) / 2),((4 + 2) / 2)

Solve
(7/2, 3) = the midpoint

Mid point of QR
First take the 'x' terms
(8 - -1)/ 2 = 9/2 = 4 1/2 => the 'x' coordinate
Next take the 'y' terms
(2 + 4)/2 = 3 => the 'y' coordinate.
So Mid-point (QR) is (4.5, 3).

add up the X's and add up the Y's, then divide by 2 for each side, and write your (x,y). Just be consistent by treating x and y separately.

If your teacher never taught you how to find midpoints, he should be fired.
