This is something that really puzzles me, I've seen alot of ppl giving Cham praise for not using profanity in his music..The thing that "bothers" me is people will put him so high on a pedestal, like he is better than other rappers for not cussing, and that really blows my mind. I mean, Pac swore like a sailor and nobody discredits him, same with many other rappers. The way i see it, is some people think no profanity = better music, and i think thats bullshyt. People act like rappers are not human. They put their shoes on the same way as you & me, why knock someone for cussing when most (ok i wont say most, but alot) of everyday people do it? some say he's not scared to do with other rappers wont, biggest cop-out IMO, be original, dont let what others think dictate what you say in your music.. if all else fails and you dont like hearing profanity buy/download the edited version.
Im not taking anything away from Chamillionaire, he's got talent, but why does he get so much praise

I believe that buying the "edited" version of anything is a slap in the face of the artist.

I agree 100%. The fact that Chamillionaire does not curse does not make him a better rapper. It works to make him a lot more marketable for kids who's music is purchased by their parents. These parents in turn (and rather ignorantly) take non-cursing rappers like Chamillionaire and Bow Wow and use them to make the generalization that "these guys don't need to curse to make records" and it goes from there.

I have no problem with rappers choosing not to curse on their records just as long as they are not up their own a$$ about it. Like, Will Smith, who (if you recall) accepted an MTV award a few years back and chastised his fellow rappers by saying he didn't have to curse to make a hit.

It's the public's view of it, that's the problem. Careful parents and the government in general can't stand the profanity in rap. I personally don't think that it's a problem, music is about expressing your thoughts about a subject. So if you have 2 cuss, do it. I don't blame anyone 4 any of the thoughts they feel. And if they feel that a cussin' can help get their point across, so be it.
Chamillionare is probably trying 2 get more album sales by showing an older audience that he doesn't need 2 cuss. Think about it. He would be able 2 address issues that parents might not like their children hearing, but it won't be as bad.

I personally don't listen to rap music, but if a rap artist choses not to use profanity it has nothing to do with his humanity. It is all about honor and integrity. Choosing not to use profanity shows a higher level of maturity in music.

I thought it was cool when he said he was gonna put put a new album without cussing, mainly cause most rappers use cuss words to make the sentance rhyme... like filler words. But after listening to the album it wasnt that imppressive, but everybody talks about it like is great. And it actually is like listening to a edited cd, because they just bleep out the cuss words from the other artists on his cd.

I think it's cuz people view hip hop as "dirty" and "profane" (especally after the Don Imus comments....funny how everything with race has to turn into a hip hop argument), anyway, I think this is designed to show people that hip hop is designed to be creative, positive music, not just swearing and "degrading women"..

If I may state my opinion, if not I will delete my comment...well not hearing anyone else rap without cussing shocks them, if your an intelligent rapper or mc then you can do both, curse words are WORDS and each of them mean something and if you actually listen to a Tupac, NAs, JAy song you would understand how they really feel when they say that curse word, I feel it's not that they cant rap without cussing it's just cursing explains their pain or stress( we are all human) I would want an artist to be straight up with me....Chamillionaire is not better than anyone I just named just because he didnt cuss in a song, it dosent make him any better...

What kind of everyday people do it? Kinda rude, isn't it? And uneducated? And unnecessary? Why do you think it needs to be in music, when for generations it wasn't? Why do you think it's not allowed on TV, if as you say a lot of people cuss? Do you know that the CDs most often stolen in stores are the ones labled as containing explicit lyrics? Why to you think this is? Does it really bother/upset you that people are glad to see an artist express himself without cussing?

I'm sure some educated people swear. And it can be used to season a discussion when appropriate. And it does help get the message across in some songs. But it's become a tool to sell records, and not always necessary. And I imagine most educated minds know when it's not appropriate.

You're asking why he's praised for not swearing. Perhaps because most - yes, most - people know that profanity thrown around left and right usually indicates a lack of vocabulary and is a habit. Is it fair? Probably not. But I'm just dealing with realities here. People who spend a lot of time listening to lyrics will probably adapt the vocabulary they most often hear. So in that aspect, the artists are role models for their listeners, whether they want to be or not. I think he's getting praises because he's fighting a system which rewards profanity (explicit versions market better than clean versions), and chooses to express himself in a less offensive manner.

I'm not coming down on anyone for cussing. I do come down on the people who can't express themselves without cussing. Expecially when there are children listening. They should have the sense, the decency, the knowledge to know better. So the profanity in the songs isn't a problem to me in itself - I can always choose not to listen. But the profanity I hear from kids in public who emulate these artists isn't good at all. This is my opinion, which is what you asked for. I don't know how to explain it exactly, but I see a difference between occasional cussing and profanity. Yes, lots of people cuss. Not all of them are profane.

- another addition -
and i gotta be real about this, my opinion is from someone who listens to a lot of music, but admittedly not a whole lot of rap or hip-hop. so it probably doen't carry much validity in this conversation, since ya'll know the genre better than i do. someone here mentioned the words chosen having an appropriate meaning (2-Pac was an example I think) so i'm gonna listen some more. have a good day.

i think it's the parents who make a big deal about it more.

i have two 15" speakers in my truck and i love to bump my sh*t, but when my three year old is in the truck and a song comes on and it's a nasty one i'll skip right over it. cause he's not ganna be raised like i was where no one cared what i listened to or watched on tv (which i also approve first).
i guess what i'm trying to say is why do parents get mad if all they have to do is not let their dam kids listen to it.

all in all, fu
i didn't really answer the question huh?

didn't nobody even say that he was better than others rappers. 50 Cent tried to clean up his album too. Rappers are trying stop getting all that flack for doing what they do. Aint nobody better than nobody and you shouldn't judge him like that
