I'm moderate - conservative on some issues, liberal on some, but I was wondering how liberals on Y!A felt about political correctness. We already know how many prominent liberal speakers with loud voices in front of the camera feel, but how do regular everyday liberals feel?

I came across a story (yes it's on the dreaded conservative Fox News, sorry!), http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,191098,00.html

It talks about a set of rules made in 2006 toward Australian cartoon book illustrators that brings them quote: "face-to-face with American standards of political correctness."

It goes on saying cows shouldn't be shown with udders (huh?), asians can't have "asian-looking eyes" (actual quote), africans can't have big lips, don't show intellectual asians, show africans and women in power, elderly people can't be cripple,etc... list goes on.

Illustrator Roland Harvey replied that it was irrational. Do liberals, in general, think this is rubbish or that it helps society? I'm just curious.

I think that's ridiculous. I think the politically correct train has gone too far. You can't even mention someone's race without fear of it offending them.

Some accept it, some don't. You can't say that ALL liberals agree with any single position, just as conservatives are also able to disagree about some issues.
We do not live in a black/white world......I think that's news to many people in YA.

Opinions vary.

Some self-described liberals strongly support the concept -- as a showing of respect for others.

Many liberals also oppose the concept -- because they would rather not impose limitations (even by peer pressure) on how other people choose to express their beliefs.

Does NYC honor each fallen officer by ability of naming something after them? If no longer, why Cardillo? That aside, the strikes of police real officers on the time have been reprehensible, and those nonetheless residing must be held responsible.

I Am Not A Liberal.

I believe, beyond a reasonable doubt, that political correctness is KILLING this country.

if you cannot call a Spade a Spade, if you cannot call a crime a crime, if you cannot call a Terrorist a terrorist then you lessen the MEANING of the words and their actions.

the people fighting the Legitamete government in Iraq are NOT "Insurgents"... they are TERRORISTS.
the "Detainees" in Gitmo Are TERRORISTS.
The Leftwing Liberal Socialist Democrats Are TERRORIST-sympathizers.

the republicans aren't Much better, but I'd vote for a Republican before I'd for for ANY democrat.
