From Phil Plait's Bad Astronomy

"Bad Astronomy: Only on the day of the Vernal (spring) Equinox, can you stand a raw egg on its end.

Good astronomy: If you can stand a raw egg on end, it has nothing to do with the Equinox. "

The article's pretty long, but worth reading. He has several pictures he took in the middle of October of eggs standing on both their fat and narrow ends, and encourages you to try it for yourself. I'll link to it.

The trick? Let the eggs get warm.

It would be nice to know what the myth is. Or is that it, that you can balance an egg any time of the year? Maybe I just don't get the question.

You've obviously exploded the myth of eggs only being able to balance on equinoctial days!

I believe the "secret" is centrifugal force. Spinning long enough and fast enough to force the yolk to the largest end of the egg. Then stand it on end.
