Dancer in the Dark - An award winning / Oscar nominated drama about a woman (Bjork - nominated by the Academy for Best Acress) trying to save up to pay for her son's surgery, and has to kill a friend in self-defense when he tries to rob her of her life savings.
At Play in the Fields of the Lord - It's about two families who go as missionaries to a South American jungle to try and convert aboriginal tribesmen. Very tragic.
Little Children - I can't convey the story in a way that will make it seem interesting, but it is an excellent movie.
Cube - A Sci-Fi about a group of people find themselves trapped in a maze of connected, cube-shaped rooms, with exits on each side. There are very unique booby traps in some of the rooms, and the plot revolves around the people in the group trying to figure out a pattern and find their way out of the massive structure.
