I would say the one I just had in August, I was working on my birthday and at the end of the day, I was layed off with no warning, that was quite a bummer, but I'm working again and it was probably for the better.

That was my birthday in 2005, when I spent much of that day and the next day vacuuming up water from the little hole in my bedroom and other places in the basement, due to torrential rains. By the next morning, I was losing my mind from all the vacuuming up water and emptying the shop-vacs, as the water was coming in faster and faster at this point. Thank God this house now has weeping tiles!

birthdays in general are overrated, I think. I had a friend who threw his own party, invited all kinds of people over, and didn't tell anyone it was his birthday. he just wanted everyone to have fun. I thought that was about the best way to celebrate I had ever seen.

The one when I had to travel on business to Omaha. The office I was visiting knew it was my birthday and surprised me with a cake. It was so nice of them... but then during the day I got sick (not from the cake) and had to leave them early. I felt so guilty because they'd made such a generous gesture to give me a good day, and I couldn't see it through.

maybe my 21st. none of my friends were 21 yet so i couldn't really go to the bars with anyone. we bought a bunch of beer but couldn't decide where to hang out, everyone was arguing. by 3am i wasn't close to drunk yet i just had to go home. pretty lame.not all it was cracked up to be for sure. and then there was one a couple years ago when my mom forgot my birthday, something about that just kinda stings.

My 17th birthday at a "Mr. Greeks" restaurant. Other than a BLT and a drink, all I got was a cake and some cards. And the cake tasted bad too.

My 20th birthday. My boyfriend cheated on me with my best friend. Yeah, they are both history now and I'm happily married.
