Because hiring mercenaries is a great way to pay Bush's political contributors for their favors. Private Security Forces earn way more money in contracts than our soldiers in the field, whether from the US military or Iraqi government (Iraq getting their money from the US Treasury!) Blackwater and others are making a killing in contracting their employees to Iraqi security efforts.
In regards to the Bush twins question, would you commit your kids for the cause?
I love the people who want to bring back the draft. They claim that if the draft was back, we all would be fighting shoulder to shoulder with the sons of the elite. Apparently, these people think that we are all idiots. If there was a draft the sons and daughters of the elite will be enrolled in national guard reserves and clerical jobs very very far from combat.

ok, here is is plain and simple. All of our solders are bound by rules of conduct and the rulse of engadgement. A mercenary is not bound by those rules because they are not a part of the military. This means that they are told what to do, and they don't have to worry about a a court marshal because of it. This lets them get things done that an enlisted man could never get away with.
If they are captured, they have no intel to give. If they are killed, there is no family to notify, no public cerimony, no press, nothing to show what they did or were trying to do.

Basically, yes.
Currently, about 25% of our total military force is allocated to Iraq -- either in field, coming off deployment, or preparing for deployment.
But that is still only about half of what is required for the US mission in Iraq -- hence, we either significantly increase the size of our military -- which would require a draft -- or hire mercenary forces. We chose the later.

The US Military are the mercenaries.
Fighting a war for personal gain under the guise of freedom is about as mercenary as it gets.

So that he can increase the amount of soldiers and we would not know. Their deaths are not being recorded and the american people feel good at night. When the American soldiers leave, the oil fields will need to be protected.

Merceneries as you call them, civilian contractors to the rest of us, are their to provide security to civilian leadership (state dept etc) and civilian workers.
Get off your left wing soap box.
Oh did you know that during the mid 1990s, mercs effectively fought the murderous rebels in numerous African countries and until the UN stepped in had established peace in most of them- all with a couple hundred men.
