Well... Most marriages are on the rocks after 2 to 3 years and end in divorce by the 5th year. (if they are to end) If a couple can stick it out for 7 years and get through the tough spots with out getting a divorce they may be able to stay married for the long haul. (at least until the mid life crisis)
So it might be that if the marriage has to be renewed in 7 years or it is over then people will stick it out past the 5 year period thinking they only have to make it 2 more years and then in that 2 years life gets a little better and they work through their problems. It would be an interesting survey topic.......
Maybe with the gay marriage thing it could be a new kind of union. Make a civil marriage and a religious marriage. The civil marriage would be a contract between 2 people that would last for the amount of time stated, 7 years 5 years etc.. At the end of the time it would have to be renewed or the acquired assets would be distributed according to the contract. This would stop the preference shown to male female co-habitators in the tax system and keep the church unions for the religious people to decide on their own rules. If a couple gets married in the church and want a government union also to be bound by the state laws concerning it then they have to have a contract and register it with the appropriate agency. You could still have a common law distributing assets if they separate after so many years of church marriage and no civil contract but no tax benefits.
Our present concept of marriage is relatively young compared to the history of humans. Who's to say we are or are not ready for a new approach. Divorce is not part of the design of marriage but it sure is a part of the modern day marriage.

In one way I like the idea. After the 7 yrs if you want to,you just leave, but what about the property, who gets what, and what if there are children involved? So many marriages fall apart before 7 yrs,but a person who dissolved a marriage after 7 yrs could keep doing that every 7 yrs and look how many kids could be produced from all those unions, Who pays child support? or like it happens in the USA the woman gets to raise the kids herself while the man goes on his merry way with several mare women. Also what happens if only 1 person wants to dissolve and the other person doesn't?

That is the best idea I have ever heard in my life !!!!! If a couple grow apart or decide they don't love each other or it just didn't work out etc. then they gracefully call it quits. If everything is good then extend the marriage !!! It is perfect !!!!!! The thing is, I have already wasted almost five sevens already !!!!! lol

Well, 7 years is a lot longer than most marriages last in the good old USA.
But it still ain't right.

I guess they do not believe in the word Holy Matrimony.
It would free some who did not wish to be married any longer.

This is wrong. I can see it leading to marriage not being needed, and then anything goes.
