when tightly swaddled (and given pacifier) we put him in his crib awake and he falls asleep on his own. he sleeps 10 hours straight at night and takes 3 or 4 good naps a day. when not swaddled he needs to be rocked to sleep, then we lay him down and he is awake and screaming 10 minutes later (having pulled out pacifier) - then he is furious and tired and cannot settle down to go back to sleep. should we be trying to transition him away from the swaddling? HOW?!????

My son is coming up on seven months. He just started going to bed at home without being swaddled. At daycare, he still has to be swaddled, often times with TWO blankets because he fights sleep so badly. Our pediatrician said he'd grow out of it in his own time and that the reason he still needs it at daycare is because it's a security thing for him. Maybe your little guy just needs the extra security for now.

You should ask your pedetrician. My 5 1/2 month old baby girl sleeps 10 hrs. but needs to be fed at least 1 time during those 10 hours, and she only takes 1-2 short naps a day. She never really liked swaddling. All babies are different..you may not find anyone who has been through the same thing. That's why I'd ask your baby's doctor.

Your baby is fine. Your blessed to have found what works w/your baby. As long as he is eating, peeing, pooping and gaining weight, don't mess with a good thing! Just get on your knees and thank God! I love swaddling! I'd have lost my sanity w/o it!

He is fine. He will let you know when he is ready to give up the swaddling.

I don't see why - he will grow out of both the swaddling and dummy in his own time!

Swaddling your son is not harming him. It makes him feel secure. He will break himself of it when he is ready.

It sounds like your son is just very comfortable in your arms, and there is nothing wrong with that. 5 months is still an infant. This is a sweet bonding time! don't rush this, before you know it he will be crawling hella fast, then running away from you.

BEING SWADDLED MAKES HIM FEEL COZY
NO NEED TO WORRY
