Eragon is part of a book series much like Lord of the Rings.
i would imagine that there will be a sequel.

Eragon is part of a trilogy of books by Christopher Paolini with Eldest being the second and the third supposedly still being written.
While Eragon was a decent movie, I don't think it did well enough for the studio to go ahead with the sequel. Either that or they are going to wait for the third book and tie up the whole story in one last movie.
It would be nice for them to make more of the Inheritance Trilogy into movies, but I haven't seen any proof on www.imdb.com that they are going to do so.

probably not. There were plans to make the series into movies but Eragon bombed big time at the box office, and what film company is going to shell out more millions on a failed project?
but there are lots of fantasy/hey I read that book! movies coming out

yeah sure... there is a second book called Elder so they'll probably make it a movie too
