I have a curtain wire in my living room. I have some valances hanging from the wire with those clips, but I think I prefer grommets. I have small grommets that will fit over the wire, but I'm not sure how to attach the grommets? Do I cut a hole first? What if I cut the hole too big? Will the hole fray? I'm really not sure if it's even worth it. Any thoughts? I made the valances from cotton home dec material from Hancock. Thanks!

I always poke my hole first. I make it smaller than the grommet and work the tube portion in first, slightly stretching the hole as needed. Then I put it on the tool with the second half and finish it. I don't have enough hand strength for the plier style tool, so I have the hammer one and just whack it. By making a smaller hole and working the grommet into it, you don't have to worry about fraying and all the edges are sealed.

The grommets should come in two pieces. You pound them together with a special tool and then poke the hole through afterwards.

Use a grommet gun, it works much better than trying to do it without one.
