They don't have viruses and they don't crash. They're portable cheap and entertaining.
Or in the words of Emily Dickenson: (who can say it much better than I can)
There is no frigate like a book
To take us lands away,
Nor any coursers like a page
Of prancing poetry.
This traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress of toll;
How frugal is the chariot
That bears a human soul!

With books I love the fact that, slthough the characters are described, the way you imagine them is completely unique to you. I love series like the Harry Potter books where you can sort of get to know the characters and lose yourself in their lives. In a good fiction, there is always characters you love and characters you hate and its always real emotion as if these people were real.
A book can open up your mind to so many things and can take you away to places that you could never physically go like Narnia and Hogwarts, and for that short time you can forget about everything thats going on around you.
Also, I love that insight into the authors mind. All that creativity in just one person fascinates me.

Books, unlike any other form of entertainment, can take you to another world. A world where it isn't already drawn up for you or laid out in front of you. You have someone elses idea of all the details of the storyline with movies. With a book you have the authors view but only to a certain extent. You can 'fill in the blanks' so to speak. I love to read and I will try to read the book BEFORE they make a movie out of it. Curling up on the sofa with a cup of coffee and a book is my favorite past time. Might sound boring to some, but to me its heaven.

I like the smell of fresh new books and a book that is not only well written but is beautifully made too- a lovely thick cream paper, reasonable size print, not too big or too small, gorgeous cover art that reflects the contents and i love extra details like small illustrations throughout the text. I want books that i want to keep and reread and share with others and I know that I do judge books by their covers but I can't help it- i'm visually minded!!

The fact that to read a good book requires imagination and you can get really absorbed in a story. They can take you to places you may never see except in your minds eye. I have rarely seen a film of a book I like that has done it justice. Films usually cut out so much that the plot gets diluted.

It would be easier to say what I don't like about them: the last page!!! I wish some books would never end.
I love the smell of them.
Being able to snuggle up on a cold rainy day and read about a tropical island.
The brilliant variety of the covers.
The stories they tell me.
The lessons I learn from them.
It's cheaper than travelling overseas if I want to learn about another country.
I can travel back in time.
The sense of kinship among readers.

They never let me down, they are always there for me, they don't complain that they don't feel well, of that the house is a mess (or I am a mess!). Books cater for every mood: happy, sad, angry, disillusioned, needing inspiration. They also don't complain if you get bored of one, and move onto another! I would far rather read a book than have a night out on the town (call me boring, I don't care!)

I love the fact that I can totally loose myself in a good book. It can make me forget about everything else thats going on and I become totally engrossed in what I'm reading. They are mine while I read them and the characters have their own faces in my mind's eye.
