Acts which were designed to protect trade by providing that trade goods could only be carried in ships belonging to the country in question. Also where a colony was involved, providing that colonial goods could only be carried in ships of the colonising country.

If you are talking about Britain and its colonies, they were a set of laws that were part of mercantilism in which the american colonies could only trade with britain and british territories and colonies.
