My grandmother was born there in the early 1900's, and when I visited Germany about 20 years ago, I couldn't find in on a map, but it was probably a very small town. My friend thinks it was likely in northern Germany and its name was possibly changed at some point.

I'm from Germany, and I can tell you it's not a German town. Daber, also known as Dobra is a town in Łobez County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland, with 2,046 inhabitants (2004).
Here's the link to the town:

To save you from confusion: Daber was a German town when your grandmother was born there, but is not anymore since 1945.

There is also a small village in Slovenia called Daber
