Governments are not one person, nor do they operate with one like mind, unless they are monarchies.
Governments in the advanced nations of the Earth are created by many people working together, all with their own agenda. When governments are legitimately representative of the people, and evenly enforce fairly written laws, they tend to be a benefit. When representative government breaks down, and powerful private interests are able to take control of institutions in government, then government can often wind up working against the interests of most people.
The historical record clearly shows that unless governments succeed in representing the average person, those nations fail to advance, establish justice, or prosper.
If it wasn't for representative government, we would still be working six days a week, in horrible, unsafe environments, like the people of third world nations.
If people would wake up and realize that if they start participating in the election cycle, we could all be working three or four day work weeks, as we currently should be, with the huge increases in productivity over the last fifty years.
Government can be the problem, but the historical reality is that representative government is the greatest tool we have to create social change, establish equality, and maintain equal opportunity for all. Stop letting conservatives, who want to re-establish aristocracy through meritocracy (Trotskyism), lead you to believe that government is the source of all of your problems. If people don't exercise their rights to representative government, then we are doomed to be ruled by corporations.

You're right. If the American government was interested in improving the averge citizens life. They would have much fewer unnecessary wars. Like Switzerland,Norway,Sweden,
Finland,Belgium,Holland etc.
Even if a person comes along and proposes a better way of doing things. It makes no difference because nobody's interested.

I wish I worked 9-5.
I work 7-5 five days a week.
And, I don't think I'll even make it to retirement age.
That's probably good. If I had to sit around all day, every day, I would want to kill myself.

There is only so much others can do for you. Some things you have to do for yourself. I swear I didn't mean to do this on purpose. But it is true. If we weren't so materialistic we would not be in the messes we find ourselves.

we should worry about improving our lives, not worrying if the government improving it for us. people work so hard (an so many hours) because they need to earn enough money to live an extravagant lifestyle they cant afford.
