I guess those who don't feel as if they were tricked into the war in Iraq wouldn't understand the need to hear what the next potential war is really based on directly from one of the horses' mouths. I don't call that stupid. I call it careful. I doubt that Columbia students are all that gullible. I also doubt they see Ahmadinejad as somebody they can ultimately trust. I want to see his face when asked if they are arming the terrorists in Iraq. I am looking forward to seeing this on TV.

He despises the actions of the American government and Israeli government in the Middle East and on the Palestinian question, but he has several times made clear that he is not an enemy of Jewish people or of American people. Here is his own writing to the American people, saying how he sees much in common and that most Americans believe in God and justice just as he does:
Please read it: http://www.ahmadinejad.ir/en/message-to-the-american-people/
It's important to clarify the following things:
1) Ahmadinejad is NOT the leader of Iran, he is overruled and overpowered by Ayatollah Khomenei
2) None of the September 11 hijackers were from Iran (or Iraq for that matter). Almost all were from Saudi Arabia.
3) Saudi Arabia backs the majority (over 50%) of insurgents in Iraq. The United States supports the Iraqi government which has Shi'ite terrorist ties and also arms Sunni terrorists who promise to stop fighting the US. Iranians are less than 1/5th of the insurgents and this does not mean that they are backed by the government
4) Iran is building a nuclear power plant because Russia wants them to. The real leader of Iran, the Ayatollah, has said that nuclear weapons are anti-Islamic and Iran has signed many treaties to this effect
5) Ahmadinejad does have a disrespect for the Holocaust, and that is unacceptable. But he does not hate Jewish people or deny that the Holocaust happened to some extent. He did NOT threaten to wipe Israel off the map, instead he has said that he is outraged that Israel has displaced Palestinians
5) Ahmadinejad's attitude towards Israel and Jews is normal or even better than most Middle East leaders, including US allies Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE
6) it is WELL established that Ahmadinejad was NOT a hostage taker at the American Embassy. His whereabouts at the time check out and the CIA concluded in a released report that he was not reponsible whatsoever.

Pretty much the same kind of 'answers' that the Bush Junta lays on the American people. Point of view BS isn't new....you listen and you accept or reject it. I find it interesting that you use your 'question' as an opportunity to beat up your propaganda strawman enemy...the non-existant 'liberals'....characterized as gullible and stupid. The fact that these critters don't exist doesn't seem to deter you from beating them up...which is what a strawman argument is for....but of course you expect someone to defend the strawman instead of forcing you to defend your own thesis. Ahmadinejad is a bum, no doubt....all political crackpots including the sainted George W. Bush are bums. Basically we're currently stuck between our bums and goofballs and swine and their bums, goofballs and swine. That's really sad when you think about it....have you ever done that? If your thesis is that this particular bum should not be allowed to speak in a public venue, then you're going to have to explain just who it is that has the right to prevent him from speaking. The government of the US? Prevention of free speech isn't a power granted....so how can they do that? Who else has the authority to prevent this bum from speaking? When you find out, let us know. Here's a clue....don't listen and if you listen you can cancel his points one by one. If the president of Iran want's to set himself up for a blast then let him....it's his funeral. But don't tell us that someone in the United States of America doesn't have the right to speak and to listen as the spirit moves. Now take your toy 'liberal' strawman and go home!

This is one of the most ridiculous things I think I've heard. I do not need to listen to a terrorists views. The man has already proved that he can lie without blinking his eyes.
I agree there are too many gullible that just listen to the talking points and believe every word of it without doing any of their own research.
Not only is this man a terrorist he is the most dangerous man in world right now. He belongs to a sect (Hojjatieh) that's goal is to bring about the coming of the 12th imam and the only way to do that is to cover the world with blood...and he doesn't care how or whose.

Hi there,
Name calling only reduces the point of argument; the fact is the President of that country assumes way too much in regard to individuals and what they think, perhaps. A multicultural society has a better hand in practicing relations with different ethnic backgrounds and ways of resolving differences of opinion. Hopefully, there are representatives that can put that practice out in the public as an example.
In fact, listening to a variety of beliefs, backgrounds and opinions even worldwide, assists persons with developing more sound opinions, on their own.

The Bush administration is trying to go to war with Iran. The American people are entitled to hear what their leader has to say. Straight from the horse's mouth. Conservatives should not be afraid to debate. Show him up for the liar he is, flush out his intentions. If he wants to lay a wreath at the WTC site let him! Iran had nothing to do with the attack, and it only does good for a Muslim to publicly disavow the terrorist act.

He maybe evil, but he has never lied about wanting to destroy America, and Isreal. If he does speak at Columbia I hope they ask him the tough questions. Such as, what was his role in the American Embassy take over? Why has Iran never renounced it's declaration of war against America?

Have you ever heard the phase "know your enemy"?
Ahmadinejad can speak to his beliefs and his intent -- and we can do whatever we want with that information.
We can ignore him, and go blindly forward -- or we can listen, and then form our own conclusions.
I don't think anyone here is going to just swallow what he says without taking the source into account. So, the only question is....
Are you willing to learn more about the person you claim to oppose -- or are you going to ignore him, and thus base you conclusions on less of the available information?

We might as well just listen to what Ahmadinejihad has to say. People have listened to Bush's line of BS for over six years now and look at what that's got us into.
