Is the security we have in our lives an illusion? Meaning is it real security or an illusion of security? Like our homes, our marriages, our jobs, our communities, etc?

i'm going to say futile, yes. illusion, yes. we can build a kind of relative security, and compare it to the security of others, but a total security, no way. life happens, always.

Well no, it's not futile, if the foundation is strong then the security is there. If your relationships are strong then you have social security, and that is not an illusion. It's just very hard to come by these days, because the community is not stable. Especially in big cities, people are transient and you hardly manage to make friends before they move away again!! I long to live in a small town with a close community, where you can feel the support of the people around you, rather than robots, if you know what I mean! I don't want to have so many things around me, just people who genuinely care!

Well, I suppose it can be futile, depending on how you look at it. Nothing in life is for sure, as 9/11 showed Americans, and countries all throughout the world. That kind of security isn't always for sure. One instant can change the whole course of the future. As for jobs, marriage, and family life, that's not for certain either.

However, does it mean that we should just not make airports safer? That we shouldn't get jobs or get married or have a family? No, of course not. The way I see it, insecurity is a part of life, but it doesn't mean you should give up all hope of ever feeling secure. Because all our efforts (the airport safety regulations, having careers, marriage, families, law enforcement to keep our communities safe) do make a huge difference in our lives. Without them, we'd be far worse off.

Sometimes it feels as though it is all for nothing. You work and you are constantly in the same place. It is really a weird feeling that you constantly work but are always in debt for everything that you want. An endless and vicious cycle.

Fear and insecurity are terrible ways to live regardless.

The desperation of being alone leads to meaningless marriages.
The fear of poverty and homelessness leads to lives of unpleasantness.
The fear of not having drives people to unsatisfying careers.

We can only deal with what is in our control. Beyond that any speculation would be just that. Deal with what is in front of you.
