I just bought a new Dell computer and it's great. I have the Vista Home Premium, etc.. but I need to set up my office in a room that has no telephone outlet. With that in mind, wireless is my option. The PROBLEM is, I have absolutely NO idea where to even begin. HELP!!

Do you have a cable outlet around the area? Then maybe you could use cable internet.
Otherwise, you will need a wireless router for the sending side and an adapter card or device for the receiving side. I assume you want to use DSL internet. The provider will likely supply a DSL modem for use.
Most computers already have a network adapter, but you will need one if you don't.. If you're not familiar, look for an extra big sort of telephone jack in back of your computer to tell.
Some newer computers, especially laptops also have a wireless adapter.. You didn't give the specifics on your computer.
There are a number of kinds of wireless routers and there are a number of kinds of wireless adapter devices. I'm out of the loop on all router types available, but the G type is more modern and faster than the B type. You probably don't want anything fancier than a G anyways. Make sure it is DSL compatible..I think most are. 54 Mbps is a good standard speed though there are faster ones.
I prefer the external adapter devices.. more easy to install and more portable than the card devices. If you get a USB 2.0 compatible adapter be sure that it is either backwards compatible or that your computer has USB2.0 functioning.

You need a wireless router (buy a combined modem/router - they are simpler) and a wireless network card.
To install the network card, just open up your PC and insert it into a spare slot (make sure you have a spare slot before you begin). But read the instructions first! Sometimes you have to install the drivers (load the software from the CD) BEFORE you insert the network card.

Aha! DSL will do. Get yourself a wireless router (Linksys, D-Link et. al.) and connect it to your DSL modem. Also obtain a wireless interface for your Dell. There are packages that include a router and and interface, or your DSL vendor can probably sell you everything you need.

You're first going to need a router, and, an antennae for your computer. You have two options. Check with your provider first, or go to Best Buy, and see what your options are.
