i don`t think most lawyers really care if their client is guilty or innocent as long as they are getting paid....look at O.J. Simpson.. guilty as hell and got off and his lawyers made millions do you think they cared if he was guilty?

Neither.

An attorney cannot represent anything to the court that they know is false -- so, if they know their client is guilty, they cannot represent the client as being innocent.

As a consequence, many attorneys would rather not know -- and that way, they can represent their client as innocent without saying something they know is false.

But even if the attorney knows the client is guilty -- they can still follow the rules of the system and try to create reasonable doubt -- and they can still require the prosecution to prove every element of every charge -- as long as they don't say anything that they know is untrue.

Lawyers are required to be truthful. They are also required to zealously represent their clients. Sometimes, that is a tricky line to balance.

And yes, some lawyers throw away the "truthful" part -- but those lawyers should be disbarred, because they do more harm to the profession than anything else.

A client is supposed to be 100% honest with their attorney. The attorney already knows the clients innoncence or guilt prior to a plea or going to court. His or Her job is to provide a deffense for the client regardless.

A lawyer is paid for his/her services. I don't know of anyone who pays for a service of any kind, would expect that service provider to do harm or a bad job for them.

Even is a lawyer is absolutely positive their client is guilty, they must do their absolute best to get their client off, or they must respectfully decline the job; and many do just that.

its about wininng, there might be some cases where they belive they are innocent, but I think mostly they believe the client is guilty, but try to get them off the hook as much as possible.

It really doesn't matter whether they believe he is innocent or guilty. Everyone is guaranteed the right to a robust legal defense.
