They tend to nap about 18-20 hours a day. However that also changes from day to day due to hunger, weather, and so on and so forth.

For example if it is a perfect day as far as weather goes you will more often than not find the pride more active between hunting, playing, etc. On such days you will find them naping more like 8-14 hours. However if it is a "my *** is melting" day clearly they are going to be resting far longer in the shade to conserve energy.

When push comes to shove they are your normal lazy nap lovin felines. Also keep in mind that though they "sleep" for that long not all of that is a deep sleep.

When food is available and hunting successful they will sleep from 18 to 20 hours a day. Otherwise they will sleep less. Now in the wild food is sporadic. So we see them sleeping a LOT after successful hunts, which is where the information comes from. In other words for a short while they take a vacation LOL!
