I believe that you can use Yahoo messenger to do this. You will need to sign up for the yahoo messenger and it is under the "actions" tab in the messenger. You would have to add the person you are trying to message first, I think. I am sure they would have instructions to do this first. There may also be other IM services that have this also.

get yahoo messanger and click on actions, go down to send sms message and send away its free "for you not the phone that is recieveing" and its easy. you will have to put the phone number in but you dont have to add anyone to your messanger but once you send a message the number will remain in the messager memory and you can just click on it from the lil scroll bar above the contact list

Nothings free these days. BUT id try one of those free sms sites just google them and read the terms and conditions make sure it says its free. There heaps of those sites. ive used them before and let me say they really do work. But im not really sure about overseas phone but its worth a try

It maybe possible with your service provider or your phone companies website, check them out you may be allowed 20 or 30 SMS a month, I live abroad but my supplier does this

use peekamo because you can also keep a record of your texts and i believe its unlimited and worldwide.
you can also withold your number, recieve a reply or use it from your phone if you have internet access on there.
