Hi there. My 4 month old has, over the last few days, been pushing her bottle away and out of her mouth every time I feed her. She is still hungry and wants it back almost immediately and then drinks a little and pushes away again. I do manage to get most of the milk in her but it can be a struggle. She also squirms about quite a lot. does anyone know why this could be?

could be that she's getting too much air. you could try switching bottle types, or nipple size as well.

i think the only way you'll find out what's bugging her is to experiment.

good luck! (the joys of parenting, eh?)

If you've changed bottles or nipples lately, obviously that could be a problem, I'm assuming you haven't. Maybe she's getting more air somehow, and needs to be burped more often. Check her mouth, she may be getting a tooth, have a sore or maybe even some thrush, anything that would make it uncomfortable to nurse. She may also be playing a "game" with you, she may have just found out that she has some control over her world, and is seeing what she can do about it.

Sounds like wind/colic? Are you winding her enough? Many mums give their babies a drop of medicine (can't remember the name) before a feed. It's quite common. If in doubt go and see your healthvisitor. Thinking again she could have a cold, be tired, or the milk's too hot. Hope you find a solution.

Have you been rinsing all the soap out of the bottle? If it doesn't taste good they'll push it away. They don't make the connection at 4 months that theyr'e grabbing back the same bottle.

Does she have a stuffy nose? Maybe she's having a hard time breathing through her nose when the bottle is in her mouth.

How can you call somebody who practices that (ec) a freak? I'd love to know what your ancesters did with the babies in your family -- maybe they just let them sit in their own poop. Do a little research before you slam something. Maybe it isn't for you but that doesn't mean it isn't a legitimate natural way of doing something.

Like Jil says maybe a stuffy nose.
Or a gas bubble or a game.
She might just want to play.

She could be teething and just wants to chew on the nipple of the bottle for relief.

Maybe she doesn't like the teat you are using. Perhaps you put the bottle too deep into her mouth and it makes her gag?

Check if the teats hole is too small for her to suck.
Or have you change the bottle or teat recently ? Children are very sensitive to these.
